Danny;

Northstar used to have an exchange program for the Navman 3100 instruments.
You sent them a defective Navman 3100 and they returned a new Northstar 310
(which was the new nomenclature and supposedly a more reliable instrument).
I don't think they offer that since both the 3100 and 310 have been
discontinued.

My Wind 3100 had been giving accurate apparent wind speed but unreliable
direction data for some time. A tech at Navman/Northstar talked me through
checking out the instrument to the point we believed I had a transducer
problem. I got a used transducer from one of the other listers who had
replaced his Navman instruments. When the new masthead transducer was
installed into the existing masthead junction the problem was solved. I'm
not sure if my old transducer was defective, or if the simple process of R&R
the transducer wand from the masthead junction cleared out some old
corrosion or contamination. You might want to try checking the transducer
for cobwebs and corrosion and see what happens.

I've also noticed that, from time to time, 3100/310 instruments still appear
on EBay. The factory in Singapore that was making them for Northstar seemed
to be selling new instruments and transducers a few months ago.

Hi Chuck,

Wow the 104 is nearly twice the price! Was the only thing you didn't like
the power drain?

I'm not sure I want to spend that much... I'm really just trying to get her
up to date but, I wouldn't be buying instruments at all if I could figure
out why the wind 3100 was't working. I get depth from an existing Garmin
fishfinder 240. It works so I'd live with that for a while. I would just
really like some working wind info.

Danny

Hi Danny,
I didn't like the T038 system. I wanted to remove Nav Instrument load from
the house batteries.

I have the Tacktick 104 wireless system; 2 solar dual line displays and a
solar analog wind display. Each display came with two mounts. I like being
able to take the displays off the cockpit mounts and click them into my nav
area where I can see them inside. In winter, they go into a backpack and
come home. I bought the T104 package plus an extra T111 display. I
installed the system myself and am still learning how to calibrate and use
the system. It seems to be a quality product. The solar works great and
the displays seem to hold a charge a long time without charging. Each
display can be charged from a 12vdc source, they provide connections for
that, but I just set the displays on a windowsill once a month and they work
great.

What do you guys think of this deal for a Raymarine Wireless T038 (3)
Display Package for $1200?

My wind indicator doesn't work at all. The display turns on and looks fine
but when I hook it up to the unit at the top of the mast it goes all
haywire.

I'd prefer to fix what I have but they no longer make the NavMan 3100 wind
and I think it is pretty old.
