It was a few years back but I believe it was used to disconnect the cable 
harness just aft of the shift lever on the port side of the transmission.  I 
remember the linkage in the cockpit being awkward but not needing anything but 
patience.  A good friend recommended having the cable made at an automotive 
supply shop and that worked great and was pretty cheap for a boat part.  They 
just replicated the old one I took them.
