My settee may not be original either.  Essentially, there's a flat piece of
plywood (with attached fiddles to keep the cushions in place) that's
screwed to the fiberglass liner that's attached to the hull.  The
interference issue is the little "pan-handle" of the board that is to port
of the mast.  If I separate that then there'll be no problem.
