Thanks.  Now I know why I couldn't see how the box was screwed
together!  I never considered the screws might be under the formica.
I'm not ready to re-do formica so cans of insulation will have to do.
I like the idea of running the wire for a fan now.  It could go to the
same breaker as the compressor or could run off the compressor's line.
