Eric I drilled holes in the aluminium too, for the same reason. The aluminium piece sits on top of a glassed in very rigid section. Mine has not moved even a little bit yet as far as I can tell. I had the aluminium piece out when I last had the mast out and a bedded around the 2 keel bots really good with sikaflex. Cleaned the aluminium piece well, filled in some obvious corrosion with thickened epoxy and painted flat black...looks better than aluminium to my eye...also ran 2 jatoba strips along either side of the aluminium and next to the teak and holly sole to finish it off a bit...looks much better now. I never lose shroud tensions and my uppers are at 1100 so I think that means the mast is not sitting on soft material

Jake, My 35-2 also has a cast aluminum block supporting the mast. I can't tell what the block is sitting on so will be interested in your pictures. Most of the water that collects in the bilge seems to come down the mast (or leaking around the partner?), so I drilled two limber holes in the ridges in the block aft of where the mast sits. Now the water coming down (or around?) the mast drains back into the bilge. Does anyone know what the aluminum block is sitting on? Looks like it is at least covered in epoxied fiberglass but of course could be wood under that. No evidence that the block has settled, though. I'll have to dig into my old pics to see what's under it. > Jake _______________________________________________ This List is provided by the C&C Photo Album http://www.cncphotoalbum.com [email protected] ----- No virus found in this message.
