Around here, the five digit numbers are issued by the CBYRA for racing, mine is 83346, with the 3 being identified with Chesapeake Bay.
Or, I could use the C&C 593 number, being the hull number of the boat. Our J-24 has a one design number of 1223 (old boat), as the new ones are in the 5000 range. Don't know how Canada does it.
