Thanks, I am very familiar with Maine Sail's writeups on his site and
various message boards and batteries are something I did a fair amount of
reading .. just not enough absorbing! I will revisit the topic when I next
have time. In the meantime, my question about the constant 12v feed for the
stereo has been answered.

One of the things on the to do list is a wiring diagram of the boat :)
