On my Barient winches, the part that holds the pawls in place is made of
bronze. When it failed, I found a welder to build up the material, and a
machine shop that did some machining to finish it. Total cost < $50
It's been more than 15 years ago, and it's just fine.

  Subject: Stus-List Winches Needed

  Hello Listers,

I have Barient 25-44 two speed winches as my primaries. One has now died.
The slot in the aluminum casting that holds one of the pawls broke. I
purchased these used in the early 90s so I guess I have gotten good use out of
them. I am looking for something similar and wonder if anyone has anything
available to sell. I need NON-self tailing, black/dark grey, two speed, and a
base diameter of at least 6.75 inches. Hopefully the winches would be less
than 10 to 15 years old as I am not sure I want to purchase another set much
older than 15 years. You may contact me off list if you desire. Or perhaps
some of you have had good experience with a particular vendor of used winches.
