Daniel:

Regarding your tach, the chances are it is a bad connection. We had a similar situation.....took the cockpit instrument panel off (PITA job because of the adhesive, now buytl) the connection was corroded at the panel ....cleaned it up, tach works. if it is more complicated than this, the electricians on the list here can step in.

Regarding the bimini, you should not need a backing plate if it is installed at the appropriate angle. Ours is connected to the deck, outside the coaming with two connections to the pushpit at the back end. I will check this weekend just to be sure there is no backing plate. As for access, we have a 6" 'access port' on the starboard side of the coaming and the port side can be accessed from the locker.

Any advice appreciated--Tively II is a C& C 32 with a 2qm yanmar. The tach is no longer registering rpm. Not sure if this is an electrical (ie loose wire) or whether it simply wore out. Any suggestions on diagnosing? Second question-- I am going to install a bimini, , one connection to the coaming on each side. Any thoughts on whether I have to put a backing plate under the coaming( is there access)? or can I just screw into the coaming?? Thanks for any suggestions. Dan Mc on City Island.
