Thanks Don and everyone else, so it is my choice except if I use the same
surveyor. They are all good suggestions and I will figure one out....
On the drain,
I am going to put one in, but there is no direct connection to the bilge,
just seepage between hull liner and hull, so I will run a hose and let
everyone know how it goes...
Thanks

HI Alex:
Based on our experience in the dark of night with a boat about to drift
down on us I have about ten feet of 1/4" line connecting the bitter end
of the chain anchor rode to a pad eye in my locker. If there is any risk
of a boat drifting down on us I place a fender on the foredeck. The
theory is that, if needed, I can quickly cut the line then tie it to the
fender that I will throw overboard. This way we can depart quickly and
pick up the anchor rode later.
The light line is only to prevent the anchor chain from departing from
the boat unintentionally and to connect the rode to the fender.

The vibration of the Yanmar 30 is annoying and I am thinking of having
the motor mounts replaced. Is there any way to determine if the motor
mounts are causing the vibration?

Alex,
If you're still collecting data, we have a 35-2 here in STL. ?The owner
gave me the following info: ?"My boat was built very near the time of the
guy raising the issue.? I think my hull number indicates a 1974 model, but
it was sold as a 1975 --? I guess because construction was not finished
until 1975."
The HIN stamped on the starboard stern is: ?CCY353201074.

An interesting thing about those links; the vessel name link didn't show
my boat, but the CG registration number did.
Seems odd since it should be mined from the same database.

if the motor mounts are causing the vibration?<<
Having replaced Calypso's motor mounts a few years back and recently
re-aligned the engine to the prop shaft, the motor mounts will either help
transmit vibration or help absorb vibration.
If the vibration is about the same in neutral or in gear and your Yanmar
is running normal, new and well-designed/installed motor mounts should
equal a significant improvement.
If you notice extra vibration when in gear it may be that your engine/prop
shaft alignment is off enough to cause the extra vibe. I installed the
R&D motor mounts from PYI, Inc. and re-aligned a few years back. The R&D
mounts replaced mounts that appeared to be over 20 years old (i.e. hard as
a rock) and were poorly installed/modified. Immediately there was a
significant improvement both at idle and underway.
During our recently completed haul out which included replacing the
cutlass bearing we performed a complete re-alignment. (The new cutlass
bearing changed the prop shaft angle slightly towards the center of the
shaft log.) We needed to lower the engine ?" and move it to starboard
3/8". Once re-launched we headed out of the marina and ran some test
circles and speed runs. The combo of a new cutlass bearing and the
re-alignment decreased the overall vibration to a new low, likely better
than we have experienced in the last 10 years.

I'm in the same boat( so to speak) and have arrived at the same

And then it would only show up with the CG registration number search???
That could explain some things; like why I don't get the yearly patch any
longer. ?I thought it was just an admin change at the CG.

All I can tell you is that there is more than one database involved.
Owners of documented vessels receive an annual renewal form in the mail
that they must send in to keep the documentation active. There is no
renewal fee. You just sign the form and mail it back. If you have let
your documentation lapse, they have a way for you to apply to have it
re-instated for a fee. I believe there is a VERY substantial fine
($10,000) for operating a vessel with a lapsed documentation. If you
were documented at one time, and did not file the forms to have the
documentation removed, you are liable for the fine.
