David,
I have a 37+ and our refrigeration system seemed to crap out a couple
of years ago. I've been considering replacing it with a CoolMatic CS-NC-17,
which requires cutting a pretty big hole in the side of the chest through to
the hanging closet of the aft cabin. See

Unit sells for around $600-$700 and installation seems pretty straight
forward.

May be one of my winter projects.
As for juice, any refrigeration unit is going to be a serious amperage
draw, and, personally, I would only plan on using it when the engine is running
or connected to shore power.
I've been warned that if I don't keep the beer cold, my crew will
defect to the Klingon Empire.
All the best,
Edd
