Yup - the Admiral did not see during the installation - did notice the cut out piece in the garage though ... but it was in by then.
It is as easy an install as you outlined - I had to do 2 cuts - one in the ice box, and one in the bulk head so marked the corners and drilled thru. Checked all measurements then cut. Finished the cuts with a drywall saw to cut right thru the foam. Drill the mounting holes and mount hook up the 2 wires and you are done! If you are using the AC/DC box you will need an ac outlet to connect it to - I use the same one as I put in for my hot water tank (it was an easy way to put it on a GFI when I replaced the old one). I think the cleanup was the hard part - that saw dust and fibreglass dust is a pain to clean up. My wife cringes if I cut a hole for a 12V "lighter" plug to charge my iPhone. But the unit looks so compact and efficient (2 amps) and it looks like all to connect is power and it's all set. No need for an AC power supply as I have a system battery charger installed that operates when using shore power. Plus the whole thing weighs like 12 pounds, much less than the existing unit which is now basically nothing but a paperweight. All the best, Edd Edd M. We did get the optional AC/DC power supply also to use when on shore power which has also worked well. Took a lot of nerve to make the cuts - and NO adult beverages before cutting, but other than that a simple install. I like that it has a fan and moves the air. I've been considering replacing it with a CoolMatic CS-NC-17, which requires cutting a pretty big hole in the side of the chest through to the hanging closet of the aft cabin. As for juice, any refrigeration unit is going to be a serious amperage draw, and, personally, I would only plan on using it when the engine is running or connected to shore power. I've been warned that if I don't keep the beer cold, my crew will defect to the Klingon Empire. All the best, Edd Edd M. I am thinking about upgrading the insulation, for the usual reasons. Not sure how much was installed originally and even less sure about how I can get into the cabinetry to determine what is there now. Something internal looks a lot more feasible but not sure of source for the right product. Planning to install myself and prepared to spend some time to get it right. The original NovaKool (sp?) works fine so far but draws a fair amount of juice. Any suggestions or prior experience with this model?
