Rick, I agree with you about use of the asym, but I use a 3/4 ounce and don't worry about it in 10 knots of wind. I have run wing and wing with it in light air and calm seas, and it works great. Otherwise, below 140 degrees it is blanketed by the main. There are lots of symmetricals available used. If you find one at Bacon's, the key is to ask how long they have had it. They will discount if up to 50% after 3 years.
