LIke others, I found the 12-15kt slot to be the sweet spot for the mk 1. I
noted that many took advantage of the extra power provided by 170% gennys for
light air. The downside is that you pay the handicap penalty for all races, so
it's only worthwhile if you live in a light air location.
Our winds average about 10 with a std. dev. of 7, so I've used a 160% quite a
bit.
I'm still debating whether a new 165% or 155% would be best. Given our
average, I'm leaning toward the 165%.
I haven't raced mine for quite a few years now, but did race on a friends and
he used the 155%.
I'm also of the belief that the old adage, Keep the power up front, applies to
this boat, unlike the J boats I've been sailing one where it's best to change
headsails first.

Subject: Stus-List 30MK1 Racing ability
Does the C&C30MK1 have the abilities to be a competitive club racer given all
the new boats joining the field? What can be done to make it be more
competitive? anybody want to share? The boat is new to me "well" a couple of
years now but I think I would like to race a little but don't want to race a
boat that cant win.
Thanks for your help. Any advise would be great.
