I don't see any problem in running the chimney through the ventilator box - it is hollow and just has a baffle under the scoop...

As far as the jib sheet getting snarled - if it doesn't get snarled on the winch, why would it get snarled on something near the winch? Could you put a little jog in the chimney to have it inside the winch instead of in front of it? And you could put a guard around the chimney. I have my halyard winches on the cabin top near the companionway to get rid of the snags.

I think putting it above the dinette would cause it to blow on the (back of ) the heads of the folks sitting there - that would not be better from a comfort standpoint.

I am looking for advice on the best location to install this bulkhead heater. It only has a depth of 5.5inches and I have considered the following options:

1. Standard location on starboard bulkhead (the dinette is on the port side). This places the heater at a suitable height but means that the 3" diameter pipe will have to be sent through the ventilator box and the small chimney top will stick up forward of the halyard winch abreast of the mast. Two possible issues are a) Is it OK to put the pipe through the ventilation box? And b) will the jib sheet get snarled on the chimney top.

2. Instal on starboard bulkhead above the dinette sitting area.
This allows the pipe to cut through a clear area inside the area of the ventilator box and forward of the mast. However, it means the heater will be higher up on the bulkhead because the seat is higher on the dinette side. This will be less good from the point of view of warmth getting towards the floor of the cabin.

3. This one may be optimistic but, given the small depth of the heater, I considered placing it low down facing across the boat in front on the mast. This would require a side heat shield and cause some restriction in the corridor towards the head going forward, but not too much.

I would really appreciate feedback on these ideas based on other's experience with installing bulkhead heaters in a C&C 30. I am looking for function and aesthetic if possible!
