A couple of thoughts:

1. a good idea is to use  fuses directly connected to the battery post (or very 
close to). This way, anything you connect “directly” to the battery, is in fact 
already protected by a fuse. An example is here: 
http://www.amazon.ca/Blue-Sea-Systems-5191-Terminal/dp/B0019ZBTV4. They also 
come in two-fuse format, which I like even more. All dependent on the space 
around your battery.

2. Think hard why you would not switch to a Smart Plug. If you need more info,

that forum (Compass Marine or Main Sail) has a huge amount of articles, many of 
which would be quite useful in your particular case (e.g.:
