My boat came with a riser made of non-galvanized pipe, it lasted about 18 years
with me and I don't know how many more with the PO's. I replaced it with
another.

  Subject: Stus-List Exhaust Riser Replacement

~5 years ago Ox's ol' Onan waterlift muffler rusted out. I replaced it with
a (Vetus?) fiberglass unit and had to replace the exhaust riser in the process.
Being thrifty, I went with Home Depot 1.25" galvanized pipe and a wrap of
asbestos tape.

Well, five years later (last week), Ox's exhaust riser collapsed. FWIW, most
of the disintegration was toward the exhaust manifold. I'm thinking of staying
with cheap galvanized pipe but this time painting it with a high-temperature
paint inside and out. Opinions or predictions?

P.S. The waterlift muffler is fine.
