Dennis,

Every headsail on both of my boats is folded like you describe. And I am 
constantly surprised that I need to teach just about everyone how to stow a 
headsail.

I'm sure most of them think I'm just an old, opinionated, crotchety guy. But I 
grew up sailing small boats with hanked on sails in Lake Michigan, and you 
learn to stow the headsails so they go up quickly and smoothly - or you get to 
drink a lot of cold lake water.

I guess roller curlers and the general demise of hanked on sails has made 
stowing headsails a lost art form.
