Thanks for all the help.
Actually, the manual you referenced has much better pictures. I tackled the job this evening and it is much easier than one would think. There is a hole in the hub of the drum. The tricky part is to pass the line through that hole, because it has to make a 90 deg turn. I found that removing the line guards helps a lot. You secure the line on the inside of the drum by tying a knot or, as Harken recommends, using a hog ring and crimping it on the bent (180 deg) line. Btw. you have to make sure that the line diameter is what is specified for the particular type of the furler. The hole is just barely larger than 1/4” (in my case - Unit 00), so going even 1/16 over would not work. Found the manual online and if it is the same model, a knot would work for you too. http://www.harken.com/uploadedfiles/Product_Support/PDF/mk3-0-4862.pdf Chuck Resolute 1990 C&C 34R Broad Creek, Magothy River, Md _____ From: "Marek Dziedzic via CnC-List" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Cc: "Marek Dziedzic" <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, July 22, 2015 10:06:48 AM Subject: Stus-List replacing furling line I need to replace the furling line in my Harken Unit 00 furler. I have the manual, but the instructions are very vague. I would appreciate any hints, if anyone of you have done this before. One more thing: the instruction call for securing the line with a “hog ring”. Is there an easy way of doing it? I am not about to buy a special tool and a load of 1000 fasteners to use just one. thanks for your help Marek C270, “Legato” in Ottawa _______________________________________________ Email address: [email protected] To change your list preferences, including unsubscribing -- go to the bottom of page at: http://cnc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/cnc-list_cnc-list.com
