The EVA foam actually performs better than kiwi-grip for traction tests. My only concerns were how long will it last, how long will the adhesive last, and what is left on the deck if you go to remove it? I also worried about how hot it might get and how it would look after it weathered a few seasons. All if those concerns pushed me toward kiwi-grip which I'm quite happy with.
