I got it off finally last night...used a 2x4 piece of teak about 4 ft long
and leveraged it off a 1x4 that I laid across the engine floor braces so
the wood was just above the shaft/stuffing box area.  Had to lean on it
with my body weight and she popped right off.  Now I'm working on pulling
out the broken band and removing the good one from the old trany.  I'll
write up the process steps and some photos once done and post it up for all
to archive for future "just in case" jobs. Hope to get it all put back
together tomorrow on my day off...  Thanks for everyone's help and
suggestions.
