My rigger uses a portable right angle drill for hoisting him/crew up the mast.
He likes the Milwaukee brand for ~$300-400. He used it to remove my roller
furling recently with his crew hoisting him skyward with the drill and a #30
Lewmar 2 spped ST winch. He was afraid the winch would no give the drill the
advantage it needed but it worked fine.

Joel,
As for winch-rites I've heard people on cruisers forums talk about using a 24v
right angled drill. If actually costs the same or less than the winch-rite AND
you get a drill out of it too. I'll see if I can find more info.

Josh,

Thanks. I'll look for them. Admiral wants a Winch-Rite which they also sell.

Following the link isn't exactly intuitive, but the boat show tent and land
locations are shown and then you have to go to the boat show map to see where
they are.

Does not look like Marinebeam comes to the Annapolis show. I signed up for
their newsletter. Hopefully there will be promotions.

Do the tricolor/anchor and steaming/deck lights require 3 strand wire (2 hot, 1
ground)?

Now that you ask that, that is the one thing I didn’t like aboutthe steaming
light, there was very little space for wiring behind the lights. Icut out a
little of the plastic to make more room.

My wiring comes through the front there, and I have a tie wrapchoking the
cord, (it is a good grade SO Cord), and that has held for nearly 20years, but a
little more room would certainly been nice.

Bill &/or Fred,

The steaming / foredeck sounds like a great light and willprobably get one.
Have had 2 of the Forespar units and the foredeck lightdies within a couple
years.

I will vouch for the deck/steaming light, I got one this springon Fred’s
recommendation, and it is sweet!
Seems to be sealed. Very bright.

Joel — I replaced all my mast lighting this past winter withproducts from
MarineBeam:

http://marinebeam.com/led-tri-color-navigation-and-all-around-anchor-light/

http://marinebeam.com/led-masthead-foredeck-combination-light/

I’m very pleased with the quality of the gear, and theinstallation went well.
I pulled new 16AWG wire for everything to thebottom of the mast, then pulled a
new common 12AWG ground from there to thepanel, along with 16AWG runs for the
hots. The new lights are farbrighter than the old ones, and seem like they’ll
do well in the weather.

At the same time, I pulled new VHF and cell repeater antennaruns, and installed
new antennas at the masthead; and I also installed an LEDWindex light wired
with my compass light switch.

It will be too hot in Annapolis for me this weekend, so Iwant to start on my

anchor/Tri combo and replace the steaming light with asteaming/deck light.

Any favorites? Any dogs to avoid?
