I would not mess with the refrigerant till all other options are
exhausted.  The Danfoss compressor package is pretty bomb proof.  The
electronics that the resellers attach are less so.  If you go to the
danfoss website you can figure out how to bypass the electronics and wire
it the way danfoss expected.  This will provide you an opportunity to
troubleshoot the electronics separately.  I found on mine that the 2 fuse
holders had bad solder connections creating a hot spot and intermittent
operation.  The previous year I had found the little computer fan not
running on the condenser.
