Hi Josh,
The boat came with a 2 year oldFlexofold prop and it became clear
pretty quickly the pitch was wrong. I could only get 2600 RPM at full
throttle with lots of black smoke. Columbus day weekend I was plowing
through 6-8 foot seas with 40 knots on the nose and could make no more than
1.5 to 2 kts., as the prop was cavitating badly. I talked to Flexofold
(in Denmark) and they confirmed the prop was the wrong pitch. Apparently,
the Yanmar 3HM35F comes with two different transmission ratios (2.83 and
2.14). Mine is the 2.14, but the 14" pitch is intended for the 2.83 ratio.
I had a Max-Prop on my previous boat (35 MK II) and liked it very
much, but in the review I just read, the Flexofold out performs it in
almost every category except reverse thrust, where the Max-Prop is much
better. Forward thrust, drag and prop walk are better with the Flexofold.
Of course it's still a lot cheaper to replace the blades on the Flexofold
rather than buying a 16" Max-Prop. Notice I said cheaper, not cheap.
