Charlie, The southern part of the Bay may be a bit sparse for convenient places to go. Pretty industrial around Norfolk/Hampton/Newport News.
If you do find a boat to charter out of Deltaville, that section of the Bay offers some nice creeks, towns and anchorages on the Western Shore side that are easy sails from Deltaville. A nice overnight trip from there would be to go across the Bay to the Eastern Shore town of Onancock. Lovely protected anchorage and some nice restaurants in a quaint little town. Northwards is Reedville where we live. If you decide to come this way feel free to use our dock. I’m 99.99% certain that it will be empty next summer. I’ll show you around the town and treat you and crew to some steamed Blue Crabs… Best, Dave Godwin 1982 C&C 37 - Ronin Reedville - Chesapeake Bay Ronin’s Overdue Refit <http://roninrebuild.blogspot.com/> > On Nov 29, 2016, at 2:53 PM, Charlie Nelson via CnC-List > <cnc-list@cnc-list.com> wrote: > > I am toying with the idea of chartering a 40+ foot mono or cat around > memorial Day and the following week in the Southern Bay- the further south > the better for traveling from NC or GA. > Need room for ~ 4 adults and 4 kids (10-14) but we would not stay on board > all week. > > Any recommendations from those who sail there regularly? > > I have found Norton's in Deltaville on the web. > > Since not everyone in our family sails, we would rent a house near the > charter or other dock and do a day sail to a fun place, dock or anchor for > one night and then return to our base. > > Maybe do this twice during the charter week and just day sail back and forth > to our base on the other days or do a combination of all of the above. > > Suggestions for where to charter a big (for me) 40+ ft. mono or cat and where > to base it would be welcome from the 'locals' on this list and anyone else > for that matter. > > We are not thinking of Annapolis because of the driving distance from NC and > GA( unless we can't find something closer to Norfolk). > > Thanks, > > Charlie Nelson > Water Phantom > C&C 36 XL/kcb > New Bern, NC > > cenel...@aol.com > _______________________________________________ > > This list is supported by the generous donations of our members.
