Fred Street is probably the guy to answer this.  

I guess I've seen the wheel pilot packages go for about $1200.  So if you could 
get your existing going for $200, why not just do that?  Then you could put the 
seeds out for the family to buy you an autopilot for you next birthday!  Lol.  

I'm always trying to prioritize projects.  So, it also depends on what else is 
on your list.  The time saved by just swapping out the head unit could be used 
to Tick another project off your list.

I have a brand new autopilot I bought last spring still during on a shelf 
because other projects are taking up all my boat days...  My boat does not have 
an autopilot currently.
