I had my boat hauled a coupe of weeks ago.  I put two zinc on the shaft and one
was all but gone the other was not to eroded at all.  I found that puzzling.
Did I not get good enough contact with the shaft on that one?  Last year at
haul out with just one zinc it looked a lot like the more sacrificed one this
year.

Stus-List How long do zincs last?
Imzadi has 2 Camp zincs on the prop shaft (whacked good, but no TefGel) and
spends most of her time in the slip not connected to shore power.  I end up
replacing zincs about every two years; sometimes one of the two is more eroded
than the other, and the better one will last for another year. I would not
presume that your performance after 18 months is all that unusual, especially
if there is little stray current on the docks and you have an isolator. I
replace the pencil zinc in the heat exchanger when I change the oil and filter,
which works out to be about every year with typical boat usage of about 100
hours per year. Smaller zinc, and I’m mostly in brackish water. Rick

Subject: Stus-List How long do zincs last? Recent thread gave replies of 3-8
months.  I dove Touche' yesterday to change the zincs and found the prop zincs
were only about 20% sacrificed.  Best I recall, those zincs have been on the
shaft for about 18 months. On the other hand, I seem to go through engine heat
exchanger zincs about every 6 months.  Go figure.
