A friend of mine who owns a Niagra 35 had his chain slip off the sprocket while he was at a mooring during windy and rough conditions. I asked him if he had locked down his steering wheel; he had not. If you have too much slack in your cables and your rudder is flopping about, you could jump a cog or two.
