Joe,

Yes, Corsair had a stainless collar above the Delrin as well. That is one of the reasons that I never changed it.  There was one set screw that I couldn't get to very easily and, of course, it wouldn't come out with an allen wrench so I left it until we broke the boat.  It still had dried and crazed quite a bit.  A quick shot of McLube now and then kept it happy.

The stainless collar I have on the shaft above my bearing keeps sun off the area right next to the shaft. If the hole gets too big it will be from wear, not UV.

Neil,

Yeah, I knew Delrin wasn't the best. Considered UHMW, but the Delrin was convenient.

Regardless of the disc, I see having a sleeve bearing set in the disc that I can easily change as an advantage.  Would be easier to swap the bearing than to refabricate the disc with the 6 bolt holes and the center hole each time.

As I said at the end of my document, maybe a non-metal sleeve bearing.

Just a "play" project for now.

    Dennis,

I think your problem is accelerated by UV degradation.  Delrin
isn't all that good in UV exposure.  I would suggest using bearing
grade PEEK but that is a lot of overkill.  You may gain some
advantage by making a sunbrella cover for it (or just replace it
    every 7 years).
