Actually, the compass reading from the autopilot and what is showing on screen is correct within a degree or two.
The problem is just the rotation of the boat on the screen, and the laylines and wind direction. (and also the line coming from the pointy end of the screen boat pointing 135 degrees clockwise) I am sure I have had similar problems with Raymarine chartplotters in the past, just not with wind direction in the mix. Line your phone up with the street and check the difference between its magnetic reading and the street. Note the difference. Now carry your phone to the boat and see what you have. Dennis C. It was reporting within a couple degrees of my actual heading. So, that seems like it is behaving. There is one data wire around it, I doubt if there is anything in that wire that would be affecting it. And like I said, it is giving an appropriate reading . . . Subject: Re: Stus-List B&G Boat rotation on screen Is this a new occurrence? Did you check the area around the fluxgate for metal and wires? I take it the fluxgate has been installed a while? If it was a new install I'd say check the orientation of the fluxgate. Do you have a control instrument where you can adjust the compass, i'e. add/subtract 135? Interesting issue. Dennis C. Maybe It has something to do with how the boat is rotated. On Jun 27, 2019 1:11 PM, Bill <[email protected]> wrote: There is an RFC 35r rate compass installed. I'm assuming it would be a fluxgate, probably 2002 vintage. Good call. This has me thinking. I just brought it up on the screen and I can actually calibrate it . I couldn't figure out how in the world I would do that, because they are so old and different. But it looks like when we get back to Port, I will do my turns. And see if something magical happens.
