Dwight,

Why split it. I’m not sure, but I thought mine was a single loop from the
exchanger to the heater etc.

What is the proper way to split the hot coolant so that some goes to the hot
water heater and some to the engines heat exchanger. Any proportioning valve
for example or different diameter hoses. I have checked my setup for airlocks
but still can’t seem to make hot water

I’ll second checking the PRV. I had mine lifting sometimes if motoring for
some distance the tank would get too hot and lift the PRV. I cleaned the heat
exchanger on the motor (Yanmar) and even though it didn’t look that dirty I
haven’t had the issue since.

Check the pressure relief valve!

Something that sounds weird there. If your engine water is leaking in the heat
exchanger in your hot water tank, wouldn't you be getting antifreeze in your
domestic hot water? My domestic water pump sometimes runs continuously as well,
but I think I have determined I have a leak somewhere, where it is sucking air.
(But not leaking water)

I think the engine coolant heat exchanger in the hot water heater is leaking
and would like to replace the unit. It heats fine on shore power. But the
pressure pump for the pressure water runs continuously unless I bypass the
engine hot water for the heater. So if I need a new unit, what should I be
looking at?
