I am in the midst of a below deck autopilot on Alera. The 37+ has access on the head of the master bunk, though I have been able to drop in through the lazarette as well. At 72, 6 ft+ and 220 lbs It was dicey, but doable. Although I am not at all sure I could have mounted the drive platform that way.
Maybe mounting in the lazarete and attaching it to the quadrant would work for you...
