Great tip. And if you have a Harken furler, you should thoroughly flush the drum and swivel. Just like a Harken traveler car, flush from different angles to be sure you clean it.
And while your genoa is down, saturate your telltales with McLube so they don't stick to the sail. I was doing that last week when a long time racer walked by and was surprised at what I was doing. I asked him if his telltales stuck to his sail. He said "yes". Well, duh. I clean, flush and lube all Touche's running rigging hardware every spring. Don't forget to flush your rope clutches. Especially Lewmar ring style clutches. Flip the lever to the open (unlock) position and flush away. You'll be surprised at how much junk and lint from the line covers you flush out. -- Dennis C.
