I had a canvas hatch cover made. Covers entire hatch with a 2" overlap. No
more leaks.

Good morning,

The forward deck hatch will also leak at the deck/hinge joint surface. The 37+
have a lot of stresses across the foredeck, which of course led to the infamous
port light cracks and leaks.

The advice is correct that you need to match the glass to the port model.
Getting the frame off is a challenge, but necessary if you want to rebed the
?glass?. There are shops that rebuild lewmar hatches, including the weather
seal, which i would suggest you do as well if redoing the hatch.

My 121 had the forward hatch redone, best thing i did. So you could:
1) investigate if local windshield shops will do the work
2) check your boat yard and see if there is a service
3) research online for the same service, likely the yard will out source the
hatch work
4) replace the entire unit. Noting that there may be another leak at the hinge
point.

Tough hatch. If it leaks, bed gets wet and that is a big problem?. Or your
stuff?.

I had investigated deglazing the other hatches on my 121 but found that
replacing them was actually cheaper and rebooted my timeline on the hatch
working life.

The thickness of the ?glass? (presumably plexi) depends on the hatch. Best to
measure, or seek info from the manufacturer (if still around). If you order
replacement plexi, be mindful of the specs of the manufacturer ? there can be a
range of thickness deemed acceptable by the manufacturer that may not be okay
with you. Regarding the adhesive/sealant, when I replaced the plexi in my
hatches I took them to a shop that installs car windshields. They used the
same stuff on my hatches they use on cars, and I haven?t had a leak (roughly 10
years). Also, I replaced a deck ?prism? window with the same plexi using the
3M tape method often discussed on this list. The silicone sealant is a Dow
product as I recall, which provides for a greater working time without skinning
over than the comparable GE product. Someone on the list with better recall
can provide the actual name. I used it on all my windows and the deck ?prism?
plexi replacement. No leaks in four years.

The glass on my forward hatch is pretty badly crazed. Recently I discovered
that the hatch is also leaking around the glass to frame seal. Two questions.
What thickness is the glass? What sealant is used to hold the glass to the
frame?

Thanks
