The shift cable was disconnected for the calibration.   I just used the arm on 
the engine for the testing so as to eliminate areas of potential problem.  I 
have the top of the tranny off during calibration but need to reassemble during 
each test otherwise, oil will be spraying everywhere.  And yes, I don’t have 
the terminology entirely correct but know what you’re talking about.  I’m very 
familiar in general with the whole engine.

Been a long time since I played in an AT4 tranny.  

 

Could the issue be insufficient travel in the shift cable?  What happens if you 
disconnect the cable from the shifter lever and shift it by hand at the tranny? 
 Does the collar move far enough that the three L-shaped levers fully disengage 
off the collar?  (Not sure what all the parts are called.)  Assume you've got 
the top off the tranny so you can see.
