Indigo Out We Go (1980 C&C 34) went in the water on Wednesday! We motored
three hours to our mooring and as we were leaving the boat I noticed an
oily streak on the outside of the hull at the bilge output.

I went back yesterday to investigate and found the bilge full of oil.
Dipstick reads low so I added a quart of oil to identify the details of the
leak. Oil is pouring out of a manufactured hole in the engine block (see
video) in the front right part of the engine below the raw water pump and
left (when viewed from the salon) of the front motor mount. Of course, very
difficult to access. I don’t see a plug lying loose in the bilge nearby.

It is a manufactured hole but it is not described in the Westerbeke parts
manual (picture in folder). It is near part 3 (plug) but there are two
holes in that area and the one that I have leaking is different. It does
not look threaded. I can stick a wire up it about 2”.

As anyone experienced this leak? What was your solution?

Is there a knowledgeable professional source on Universal / Westerbeke
diesel engines from 46 years ago?

Thanks,
