If you'ld have read the samba documentation, you would have saw that they
say why doesn't it work.

The reason is that samba uses plaintext passwords while windows usess
encrypted ones. The encryption method is NOT one way, and because of that,
if someone sniffs the password on the network, he can decrypt it easily,
so they didn't even had enable encryption support at all.

What you should do, is tell Windows to use plaintext passwords.

Append this file to the registry:
/usr/doc/samba-2.0.5a/docs/Win98_PlainPassword.reg

If you have other samba, the directory name will be different.
Use "locate Win98" to find the file.
