Sorry, haven't been following the entire thread, what hung? A particular service? > No software damage was detected in the gui or any warnings I know of > but I have to double check > > What do I physically check for, though, via telnet (it is in cali I am in > new york) Kind of off-topic, but I strongly suggest you install SSH and disable telnet. SSH and telnet both provide access to the server's shell, but SSH sends data encrypted while telnet sends data in plain text which is a serious risk. pkgmaster.com has a PKG file for the current version of SSH. Install it via the GUI, then disable telnet through the GUI. If you run a PC, use a client program like putty (free) or securecrt (fee) to access via SSH instead of telnet. > to look for anything that can cause a hang or memory loss or what not Check /var/log/kernel for starters. > or maybe a script/software that can cause such an error Type "ps aux" or "top" to monitor active processes. Install and run "lsof" to get details about open files. Get rootkit detection programs like chkrootkit and run them to see if you've been hacked... > Should I create a cron job to re-start this machine daily at 2 am? I'd suggest avoiding that unless you don't have the time, expertise or funds to determine the cause. That's a rather extreme solution. > I wonder what can be done. What security solution do you have in place? Any unusual activity leading up to this? -- Steve Werby President, Befriend Internet Services LLC http://www.befriend.com/ _______________________________________________ cobalt-developers mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://list.cobalt.com/mailman/listinfo/cobalt-developers
