Did you install any patches after you installed POP before SMTP? I've had
problems with the application because it is very picky about versions of
software that it is interacting with (primarily qpopper I
think). Uninstalling, then re-installing may fix it (and is actually
fairly painless).
One note of caution: I'm not certain, but I think that the POP before SMTP
package may install an older version of qpopper that has vulnerabilities.
