one has a LOT time to waste with various loader scenarios using floppies and possibly a kernel rebuild.
incidentally, I am finding it hard to believe that the hacking and the hardware failure happening the very same evening was a coincidence. Have you ever heard of a hacker trashing hardware, while leaving the OS intact? The machine has symptoms of a failed motherboard or CPU, different from the disk problems we have had in the past with this raq4r. Is it possible s/he flashed the bios...?
