   I have a strange problem
when the user uses webmail he user/password works
when he uses pop3 it keeps asking for the password
they use outlook express

any ideas?

su -
cd /var spool/mail
ls -la

there may be a .pop lock file there for the user

rm it

Also, if they use a blackberry at the same time as they are popping the account, it may cause the mail to not begin with
From .... etc.

Which will cause the pop 3 to give the "from lines envelopes ... check for corrupted mail drop" error.

Edit the file with
pico -w /home/spool/mail/theusername
and delete the unwated text at the beginning of the file.

Or, it might work to delete the oldest email using the webmail.

Yes. Try that first. Look for one with subject N/A.
If not, as root, rm /var/spool/mail/.pop.user - works for me - my cobalt raq550 spools in /var/spool/mail - not /home/spool/mail - are we talking the same platform?
