While not related to the reduction in passerines on the CBC's, a number of
neotropical migrants that either migrate through Colorado or nest here
including Bobolinks are suffering declines as they are "highly susceptible
to the toxic effects of the chemicals used on their wintering grounds in
Central America and South America".  Many of the out-of-season fruits and
vegetables  in our markets come from the countries that use restricted
pesticides that are not allowed in the United States.   By buying in-season
fruits and vegetables we can help these birds and reduce our countries
dependence on the large amount of foreign oil  it takes to transport these
items thousands of miles to our markets as well as reduce the carbon going
into the atmosphere.
