Yesterday, along Shelf Rd, in northern Fremont Co my wife and I watched as a
pair of Golden Eagles brought large dead limbs and finally a large
green/live evergreen limb to a nest site. The nest site is on a ~100' cliff
face, situated on a ledge half-way from top to bottom. The nest appears to
be quite complete and ready for use. The pair was constantly harassed by
nutcrackers, ravens and crows. The nest is on the east side of Helena
Canyon, across the canyon (approx 1000 ft) from the road. Almost at
eye-level. It is in a shaded nook.

I have owned property at this location for about 9 years now and never
witnesses a pair of eagles in the area before - and there is no way I would
have missed this. So I am quite sure this is a new site. And, there does not
appear to be a large build-up of sticks nor accumulation of white-wash as
would be expected at a site used for previous seasons. The large mesa tops
and hillsides surrounding this site have ample cottontail and jackrabbit
populations - along with marmot, ground-squirrel and others to be found.
