A rookery I am monitoring in the Canon City area had only a few Great Blue Herons engaged in nest building on March 2. When I checked again on March 9 there were 14 nest building and several on occupied nests. These dates are earlier for this colony than last year. The Colo Breeding Bird Atlas I documented nest building beginning on March 20 and occupied nests starting on April 1. I wonder if others are finding earlier nesting behavior?
