While driving home from volleyball tonight about 7:45pm I spooked on
shoulder of WCR 100 (at what would be WCR 25) a probable Short-eared
Owl--flew across my car and posture on road sorta looked like this:

This area has no trees--just old ags fields, and shortgrass and
rabbitbrush. It wasn't a buteo or harrier or Great Horned Owl or
Burrowing Owl. Guess it could be a Long-eared (size) but I doubt it.

This makes three over the last few years I/my wife and I have either
spooked either off shoulder, road pavement and actually we got great
looks at one atop one of the small deciduous trees on south (prairie
dog colony on north) of area mentioned above. When I deliberately
search for them (more like hope for) along WCR 100 I usually get the
big "nada".

We also spooked three more (hanging out on road and shoulder)-few
months back near our house along WCR 33.

Thanks
