Crystal Springs Ranch (Kit Carson County) Field Trip with a possible extension
to Bonny Reservoir - May 16th (& 17th)

This trip combines a new location in Kit Carson County with a possible
extension to Bonny Reservoir in Yuma County. The Crystal Springs Ranch is very
promising habitat as a spring migrant trap and is immediately north of Flagler
SWA. Last fall Nathan Pieplow led a very successful trip there in early
October. There are two good-sized ponds on the ranch with large cottonwoods
including other hardwoods and a medium-sized marsh with cattails plus upland
habitat. Flagler SWA and other Kit Carson locations will also be visited.
Mid-May should be an excellent time for migrants at these eastern Colorado "hot
spots." There is a $10 per person fee for Crystal Springs Ranch. A Habitat
Stamp is required for this trip. A decision on the Bonny Reservoir extension
will be made later. For those who might be interested in continuing to Bonny,
either with the extension or on their own, lodging is available at the Klassen
Ranch, for $75 per night for a three bedroom guest house, which is situated
about half way between these two locations. Contact trip leaders Mark Peterson
at [email protected] or Bill Kaempfer at [email protected] for more
information on the field trip. For additional information on the Klassen Ranch
contact Jim Beatty at [email protected] or call 970-385-0184.
