Hello all,
I was at a meeting today for the SE Colorado tourism group and it was brought
to my attention that Bent County is again holding a history/birding event in
May. It will be held on May 15-16. They will be looking for black rail and
other marsh birds Friday evening and plovers, prairie and shore birds on Sat.
John Drummond will be leading on Sat. There will be some other history field
trips on Friday as well.

Contact info is [email protected] or by phone at 719-980-1320 or
719-456-2173.

Was at the Rocking 7K for the above meeting and I had a close encounter of the
wild turkey variety. Two toms decided I was a threat to their hens and kept
attacking my tires as I ventured down the road! Reminiscent of 4 toms chasing
after me into the trees at our CFO trip last year-they were admirers though :-)
 I think. . .

Golden eagles are definitely nesting on the Taylor ranch. Possible upland
sandpiper was seen at a pond on the Taylor ranch. Wood ducks are present on
the Rocking 7K and John Koshak and I may have seen a canyon towhee. Of course
neither of us had our binoculars right there so we were going by sound.

Reminder that the CFO trip to these ranches as well as Turk's Pond, Two Buttes
and Lamar Woods is just a few weeks away. Hope some of you can come down this
way. The pastures are actually greening up a bit after our couple of snows.

Good birding,
Judi Ogle
