Pretty day for birding in southern El Paso county today. Big Johnson Res: 35 species Highlights: Great Horned Owl in cottonwood by the hay field below the dam, Franklin gulls
Hanover Road: 28 species Highlights: Swainson's hawk, Yellow-headed Blackbirds, Prairie Falcon, scaled quail Chico Basin Ranch: 48 species Highlights: common yellowthroat, flock of 34 white-faced ibises in flight with their gorgeous wings turned to the sun, great horned owl, least flycatcher The only problem occurred when we realized we had brought no lunch or snacks with us. Bummer.
