COBirders, Checked out Lower Latham and Beebe Draw this afternoon. Most interesting find was a pair of Mute Swans in one of the large ponds on County Rd. 48 between 43 and 47 roads (photographed.) Another flooded field along 48 held a couple of Long-billed Dowitchers plus the usual suspects.
A marshy pond on Rd. 45 near the intersection of 45 & 46 roads had the best variety of birds including a rather large flock of ibis (75+). The ones I could see were all White-faced but there were many in the deeper grass outside of the water that were not clearly visible. This pond also had Semipalmated, Least and Western Sandpipers (plus the usual). Most numerous birds in the general area (in addition to the ibis), were Cattle Egrets and Yellow-headed Blackbirds. I have not seen this much water in this area for years. Should be good for a while yet. ------------------- Rachel Hopper Ft.
