This summer is the second year of data collection for the breeding bird
atlas in South Dakota. We invite Colorado birders to help. We have a lot of
species that you won't encounter on your Colorado atlas blocks. Some of the
specialty species include grassland specialties (Sprague's Pipit,
Short-eared Owl, Long-billed Curlew, etc.), wetland specialties (all prairie
pothole waterfowl, all colonial terns, gulls, ibis, egrets, herons, grebes
including Red-necked Grebes, secretive marshbirds, etc.), 16 sparrow species
including LeConte's, Nelson's Sharp-tailed, Baird's, Clay-colored, Vesper,
and so on. A total of about 220 species. Or, maybe you'd like to hang out in
the Black Hills - still lots of blocks available there and in the nearby
grasslands and sagebrush. The options are limitless to have a different
atlasing experience!

The process to get started is simple. First, sign up for a Colorado atlas
block if you haven't already. Step two - look at the online map for the SD
atlas ( <http://www.rmbo.org/SDBBA2> www.rmbo.org/SDBBA2 - click on 'map')
to see what's available. Read through the information on the website,
especially Atlas FAQ to see what's involved. Then contact me to sign up for
a block. That's it! If you have questions or comments, please contact me.

Happy birding!
